Details
The Director of Marketing & Promotions plays a key role in facilitating the exposure of each station through events and promotions, as well as listener introduction and commitment through on-air promotions and marketing campaigns.
Responsibilities:
1) Manage Marketing Budget: *Build and manage the annual budget (s). *Monitor expenditures to contain expenses to dollars budgeted. *Reforecast accordingly throughout the year. *Utilize creativity and diligence to “find dollars” for newly added events/promotions/campaigns. *Work with Promotion Directors to negotiate and manage station merchandise.
2) Facilitate and Maintain Station Exposure through Events and Promotions: *Evaluate events/promotions on an annual basis to determine the level of exposure for the station (s); determine which events/promotions offer a high level of exposure and should be retained versus those that should not. *Seek out events/promotions that fit with each station’s format and will introduce/expose the stations to a targeted audience. *Establish contacts throughout the Metro Flint Area; coordinate meetings to discuss upcoming events/promotions and station (s) involvement; submit proposals. *Coordinate large-scale events (concerts, etc.). *Work with Promotion staff to ensure that events, remotes/appearances and promotions are coordinated and/or executed.
3) Grow and Maintain Listener Commitment to the Station: *Utilize budgeted dollars and client tie-ins to create on-air promotions that will draw additional listeners to the station.
*Evaluate on-air promotions on an annual basis to determine the success of the promotion and whether it should be retained. *Utilize budgeted dollars to create marketing campaigns that will brand each station’s format and position by attracting additional listeners to the station (s) and staying top of mind to current listeners.
4) Manage Promotions Department: *Work directly with the Promotions staff to ensure event details are coordinated and in-office work is accomplished. *Oversee the relationship between the Promotion Department and Sales and Programming. *Hold Monthly Promotions Meeting to discuss issues, brainstorm ideas and work on upcoming events.
5) Work directly with the Program Directors: *Evaluate each station’s Marketing and Promotion needs. *Develop a Strategic Marketing Plan for the year (station specific.) *Discuss ideas and concepts thoroughly to ensure that Programming, Sales and Promotions are on the same page. *Brainstorm and coordinate ideas relating to events and on-air promotions.
6) Work directly with the General Sales Managers and Sales Staff: *Help create effective client tie-ins that make sense for the station and generate revenue. *Work with the sales department to identify revenue opportunities at potential cluster events/promotions and individual station events/promotions. *Work with the sales department to maximize revenue opportunity with existing cluster and station events and promotions. *Brainstorm ideas and programs for existing and new clients/partners. *Attend Sales Meetings (when necessary)
7) Develop, Implement and Maintain a Cluster Internship Program: *Develop relationships with Cooperative Education Departments at local colleges. (i.e. U of M Flint, Mott, Baker College, CMU, Saginaw Valley U, etc.) *Develop a program, set of goals for each of the term. *Maximize Internship exposure within the office and on the street.
8) Develop Relationships with Media outlets: *Develop relationships with local TV stations. *Develop relationships with local Print outlets
